Just Thinking

I was coming up the stairs this evening and thinking about how cool it has turned here today. Rained and now quite chilly. It made me think about how nice it is to have a nice warm house and bed and how lucky we are.Simple things to make one happy.....

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Two Girls And A Tool

Yesterday my dear friend Mrs. Prairie Blue came by. We decided we were going to work on my front porch and what fun we had. This gadget is one I had bought for my hubby and he said it is his favorite tool. I have to say it is handy once you get the hang of it. But....we dropped screws and giggled and got in some of the strangest positons you have ever seen just trying to help each other hang things. Now you know it takes 2 people to hang something and get the other's opinion right. Change this or how does this look OR does this look better. I think after all of this that we ought to have our own show on HGTV. It would be quite comical if nothing else. She has no idea how us spending a few hours together gave me a much needed lift. Always remember that a smile, hug, or a simple gesture can make someone's day. Keep on the lookout for a new program about us girls and our use of tools......ha...Kidding but it would be funny....Have a wonderful day everyone...

Our Heartfelt Thanks

Let me start this by saying this has been the hardest week I have had in a long time. I can say though that all of your blog comments and emails that we have gotten this week has made us feel better. Sorta silly some people would say but it seems like we have lost a daughter or something. We have cried, talked and cried some more. Who would have guessed that a 7 Lb. cat could change our life so much and teach us things at the same time. I find it so heart warming that people so love animals like we do. I try and keep my blog upbeat and interesting and will continue to do so. Time heals all I keep hearing. I wanted to share this last photo that I will post of her with you and show what a beautiful cat Prissie was. She was haughty and had an attitude but was so faithful to us. This was taken about 8 years ago. Wasn't she precious...Thank all of you for your sweet comments and emails. It really meant a lot to us.....

Our Beloved Prissie

We lost our beloved Prissie this morning. We have so many good  memories of her that I couldn't post them all because it would take all day . I can say that this has been a very hard day for my hubby and I. We have talked again and again about how much we love this old farmhouse and what a comfort it is to be home. We have talked all day there is such a huge hole here right now that we couldn't imagine would be when she was gone. Our happy little home of 3 is now broken and will never be the same. I know they say time heals but it will take awhile for this to get any easier. I thanked her for giving us 21 wonderful years and cryed as she left us. I hope she knows how important she was to us. My mother and others said she did and that she lived like a queen. She was one of a kind and had so much determination that we couldn't believe her at times. My hubby said she could teach us things and marveled at what she had endured  in the last couple months and always bounced back. We will never forget you Prissie. Our hearts are heavy today. You taught us to be tougher, stronger and made us better people. We love you dearly and what a blessing you have been in our lives .....

A Wonderful Man

News

Wild Elephants gather inexplicably, mourn death of “Elephant Whisperer”

Author and legendary conservationist Lawrence Anthony died March 2. His family tells of a solemn procession of Elephants that defies human explanation.

Everyone knows I am a animal lover. This story is unreal. If you have the time read this. What a wonderful man. I added the link at the bottom of this post.

For 12 hours, two herds of wild South African elephants slowly made their way through the Zululand bush until they reached the house of late author Lawrence Anthony, the conservationist who saved their lives. The formerly violent, rogue elephants, destined to be shot a few years ago as pests, were rescued and rehabilitated by Anthony, who had grown up in the bush and was known as the “Elephant Whisperer.”

For two days the herds loitered at Anthony’s rural compound on the vast Thula Thula game reserve in the South African KwaZulu – to say good-bye to the man they loved. But how did they know he had died? Known for his unique ability to calm traumatized elephants, Anthony had become a legend. He is the author of three books, Babylon Ark, detailing his efforts to rescue the animals at Baghdad Zoo during the Iraqi war, the forthcoming The Last Rhinos, and his bestselling The Elephant Whisperer.

There are two elephant herds at Thula Thula. According to his son Dylan, both arrived at the Anthony family compound shortly after Anthony’s death.“They had not visited the house for a year and a half and it must have taken them about 12 hours to make the journey,” Dylan is quoted in various local news accounts. “The first herd arrived on Sunday and the second herd, a day later. They all hung around for about two days before making their way back into the bush.”Elephants have long been known to mourn their dead. In India, baby elephants often are raised with a boy who will be their lifelong “mahout.” The pair develop legendary bonds – and it is not

uncommon for one to waste away without a will to live after the death of the other.
